2021 Tile Trends
There’s no place like home. Most of us have spent more time in our homes this past year, giving us plenty of time to see the value of investing in our spaces and making our houses into a home where we’d want to be.
Regardless, if you’re back at work or taking calls from your kitchen, or let’s face it all those ZOOM meetings, why not make a statement and make your space more inspiring and insta worthy!
Interior fans know that tiles are a stylish way to breathe life into your home, with a host of different shapes, colors, prints and patterns to choose from. But the question on everyone’s mind is, what are the top tile trends of 2021 and what to do they have in store for us, and how do we style them?
1. ENCAUSTIC TILES
This trend will keep going strong into 2021 and is also a timeless style that won’t be dated any time soon. With encaustic tiles, you can expect a bold, highly detailed style, with a lot of colors. Popular styles range from geometrics to florals, to old-world and Victorian and so much more. These gorgeous patterns are especially popular in kitchens, mudrooms, and bathrooms – so basically anywhere you can tile, it is all about personalization of your space.
This is a foolproof way to add an exotic touch to the room, either as a wall or floor covering.
You can also create a unique appearance or focal point, like the kitchen island, and cover it using encaustic tiles or that accent wall that you have been staring at during all those Zoom calls.
2. WOOD LIKE TILES
Wood imitation remains at the peak of popularity for many years and gaining even more traction since we all have been spending so much time in our homes that the wear and tear on our hardwood is showing through. Why not opt for a textured surface, perfectly imitating natural wood, and are ideal for decorating any space? Wood like tiles create a cozy and pleasant atmosphere, they make your home look warm, current, and expensive.
Manufacturers are now able to mimic all the biggest wood flooring trends with textured looks and everything. So it’s no surprise that their current natural wood looks are just about the hottest thing on the flooring market.
3. LARGE FORMART TILES
Large format tiles offer a striking appearance that’s guaranteed to turn your head when you enter the room. They make your room look bigger, especially if you choose a lighter color. Additionally, larger tiles = fewer grout lines. Which is a win, win. There’s plenty of variety in large format porcelain tiles as they are available in multiple effects such as marble and terrazzo.
4. BLACK TILES
Just like a little black dress, a black bathroom is ultra-chic.
We all know that black goes with everything, making it the perfect accent, especially in modern and Scandinavian styles. It’s a very chic and moody color that is becoming more popular with younger homeowners.
PS. vintage black and white tiles are also making a smaller comeback. Whether you want the retro black and white checkerboard tiles, or bold, dramatic chevrons, this contrasting combo is sure to make a big impression this year.
5. PLAYFUL SHAPES
From a pop of color to a fresh take on a classic pattern, a touch of whimsy can take your space to the next level. Bold geometrics and bright colors are the name of the game this year. You’ll see plenty of fun shapes that will be especially popular amongst younger homeowners. Think hexagons, chevrons, fans, and just about any irregular shape you can find out there.
One or our personal favorite, the Fish Scale Ceramic since these tiles are perfect for creating a feature wall with its rounded shape and curved lines providing a welcome escape from classic square and subway tiles.
6. PLAYFUL DEISGN
Subtle differences in designer favorites will be seen coming through in tile trends 2021, but it’s not all about the tiles themselves being different, but how we apply and style them.
For example, vertically stacking subway tiles will put a new twist on a well-loved tile style, and mimics tongue-and-groove paneling or what about which pattern you’d choose for your space to create a larger looking space.
7. EARTH TONES
Make your space more inviting (and cozy) with a more warm-toned, earth-inspired palette. Incorporating natural materials and bringing the outside in has been a popular movement within interiors for decades, but now this look can be achieved through tiles. Stone, wood, concrete and marble effects are all available in porcelain for a result that’s not only realistic but also wonderfully practical.
Inspired by the color palette of nature, muted tones bring the browns and beiges of the outside world into your home. They’re the perfect way to add life and depth to a room if you are not ready to take that step to bold and bright colors just yet.
8. 3D EFFECT TILES
You can create the illusion of three-dimensional space in a room with the help of a trendy 3D effect in 2021. This option is suitable for a small area when you need to expand the dimensions visually. We recommend combining 3D tiles with solid colors. In a small bathroom, a small separate fragment with this effect will look good.
When choosing tiles, you should focus not only on trends but also on personal preferences. You should not rush to select an option, but thoroughly consider the future design of the space.
